Mosh! SICK OF SOCIETY are back with a new release, but this time with a real raw production. Musically they don´t fit very well in this publication, cause they perform a crossover of bands like S.O.D., SICK OF IT ALL and stuffin the vein of SACRED REICH´s “31 Flovers” And I really hate these funky parts! This tape is for open mindedpeople. That´s all!

Neues Material gibt es auch wieder von S.O.S. in Form des “Raw” – Tapes. Das enthält neben 4 neuen Songs noch zwei ältere Songs. Die neueren Songs sind stilistisch mit den Songs der „Silicon Valley“ vergleichbar und dienen der Überbrückung bis zur neuen CD im Frühjahr ´98. Für jeden der auf Metal / HC steht oder einfach nur auf gute Musik.

„und alles klar? Wollte eigentlich nur unser neues Demo „Raw“ vorbeischicken. Das Teil ist wahrlich nichts besonderes (schlichter Sound und schlichte Aufmachung), aber das Teil ist ja auch nur zur Überbrückung der Zeit zwischen „Silicon Valley“ und unserer nächsten CD gedacht. Es stellt sozusagen nur ein Lebenszeichen von S.O.S. dar. Als mehr möchten wir „Raw“ auch nicht verstanden wissen!“ – Yes, ich liebe es, wenn Bands mir die Arbeit abnehmen und den Grund für eine Nichtbeachtung meinerseits gleich schriftlich mitliefern. Danke SOS! Ihr habt in eurem Schreiben ja schon alles gesagt. Dieser Artikel hier ist übrigens auch nur ein Lebenszeichen von uns, dass euer Brief hier angekommen ist und ist eigentlich auch nichts besonderes (Kein Inhalt und keine Kritikpunkte) und interessiert wohl deshalb auch genauso keinen Arsch.


[Execration zine No.3 Austria ]
Öha, schon weider ein neues SOS-Release, das ging aber schnell... Das akute Bandl soll aber nur die Wartezeit auf die näxte hochoffizielle Veröffentlichung versüßen und bietet neben 4 neuen Tracks, die wie gewohnt in der Schnittmenge aus Trash und Hardcore liegen, jedoch nicht so varianten- und ideenreich rüberkommen, auch noch zwei alte Stücke von der obergeilen Silicon Valley Mini CD. Zwar nicht schlecht, aber eigentlich ziemlich überflüssig und nur für eingefleischte Fans zu empfehlen. Preisangabe hab´ ich mal wieder verlegt, aber 10,- DM dürften locker reichen.


[Fatal Underground No.1 Germany]
Was mir hier zu Ohren kommt, lässt bei den ersten recht ungewöhnlichen Tönen unwillkürlich aufhorchen. Dieses 4köpfige Band aus Vöhringen hat sich was einfallen lassen, was sie schlicht und auch recht treffend als „Hard Stuff – music to the core!“ bezeichnen. Einfach ist es nicht, diesen Sound zu beschreiben, ich würde es mal als eine recht gelungene Mischung aus Thrash / Heavy Metal und Hardcore bezeichnen. Das trifft es aber auch nicht ganz, weil einfach auch mal klasse ruhige Passagen eingebaut sind und es wird in jedem Song für reichlich Abwechslung gesorgt. Auf dem Demo Ihre erste CD „Silicon Valley“ überspielt + Songs vom den Demos 4&5. Sollte auf jeden Fall jeder mal antesten, der offen für neue Soundvariationen ist und nicht nur auf Einheitsbrei steht.

Ich hätte niemals geglaubt, dass mir sowas mal gefallen könnte. Also, Hardcore isses, und ziemlich abwechslungsreicher noch dazu. 6 Songs sind drauf. 4 davon sind ´n Rehearsal (auf Seite A zu finden) aber trotzdem mit ´nem Sound, den manche Bands im Studio nich auffe Reihe kriegen. Die anderen beiden Songs (Auf Seite B zu finden) sind aus der Aufnahme Session zu „Silicon Valley“, demzufolge auch mit ´nem besseren Sound versehen. Dummerweise is´ das Tape viel zu schnell vorbei. Aber was soll ´s, is´ ja auch nur zur Überbrückung zum nächsten S.O.S.-Release (der nächstes Jahr erhältlich sein soll) gedacht. Auf jedenfall gerechtfertigte 7,- DM (incl. Postrotz) müssen dahin:

[Heavy, oder was ! 3 98 Germany]
Nach der der zunächst veröffentlichten CD „Silicon Valley“ gibt es zur Überbrückung der Wartezeit auf ein weiteres Album ein neues Tape der Hardcoreband SICK OF SOCIETY. Dieses bietet aber leider nur Allerwelts-Hardcore, den man in dieser Form von vielen anderen Bands schon weitaus besser gehört hat. Man nehme eine Brise BIOHAZARD, gebe ein bisschen SICK OF IT ALL und zum Abschluss noch einen Schuss RYKER´S hinzu, und schon hat man ein paar Songs, die zwar gewisse Einflüsse eben geannter Acts beinhalten, aber niveautechnisch nie mit den Kompositionen der in diesem Zusammenhang angeführten Combos mithalten. Hardcorebands gibt es wie Sand am Meer, aber mit SICK OF SOCIETY hat man bestimmt keine Perle ausgegraben. Gut, einige Passagen kommen recht kraftvoll und drückend daher, aber der pseudoharte Gesang will nicht so recht in das Gesamtbild der Sick of Society-Sounds passen. Da höre ich mir doch viel lieber ab und zu mal die Orginale an.

OLE and his company are again on my pages, I reviewed their previous releases in my previous issus. I must tell you that sickos made a progress in each new release. But still don´t like their music. Again and again panterish power trash with some hardcore elements. Sound is ok, even that tape was revorded in their rehearsal room –live. Sometimes vocals are very high. Sure some people will like it, but I´m not one of them. Would you like feature with interview an this pages ? than start to play like The Sister Of Mercy or MY Dying Bride! 6 Songs , 4 of them new. D.R.I. type old school HC rules! S.O.S. are harder, faster and more HC-oriented than ever. Good audible bass work, that´s cool. Get this 6 song demo, whichis only a sign that they are still in existence, though.

Sick of Society – “Love” – “Silicon Valley” – “Raw”
The band´s name can be mislead you. Indead you can think that Sick of Society is a Punk/Hardcore band but even if these mentionned styles are sometimes present (ina more or less neat manner in the musicbut all above the lyrics) it would be false and simplistic to confine to a nichethat is not inevitably theirs and does not give the possibility to present their music to more various audience but nevertheless fans powerful metal because that´s the best definition of their music.
A music for fans able of eclectism cause you can find here: Biohazard enmostyle atmospheres (piano intros, murmured voices, heartbeat...) Trash/death influences (drums, voice), Punk influences (simple and effivient guitar riffs, fast tempo) new school hardcore (like Nerauder), Rap (spoken Voice on “Love?!) there is even a Ska passageand an another with a wah-wah...
The whole is however energic and powerful and must be realyy great “live“. A good music not really original but this band deserves to be supported cause these guys seem to be animated by passion and sincerity.


[Ripping Thrash No. 16 England]
I feel this German band are improving. Their Silicon Valley demo which was reviewed before was way too metal for me, this demo is a bit less metally – so at least they´re heading in the right direction. After all with a name like SICK OF SOCIETY they should be a pissed off as fuck punk/hardcore band! As it is, it´s still metally, but with more of an intense and angry sound I´d say, some tracks lean towards the Rage Against The Maschine style.


[Tales No.3 Germany]
Und schon wieder ein neuer Release der Sick of Societies. Dieses Tape ist jedoch nur als Promotape zur Überbrückung bis zur nächsten CD gedacht, was sich soundtechnisch leicht bemerkbar macht. Jedoch finde ich die Qualität recht passend. Es wurden vier neue Songs aufgenommen und zwei von der CD wiederveröffentlicht. Ich muss sagen, dass mir die neuen Songs besser gefallen, als alles bisherige der Band. Diesmal hält man sich mehr an die schnellen Hardcore Teile. Klingt ab und zu leicht nach Sick Of It All, für die, die die Band noch nicht kennen sollten. Das kleine Wörtchen Fuck stößt mir zwar immer noch gelegentlich sauer auf, aber dies gehört ja irgendwie zu dieser Musikrichtung. Auf jedenfall ein nettes Teil, welches auch nicht nur Hardcore Fans gefallen könnte.


[Tranquil Chaos zine Netherlands]
It´s been a while since their last release to date ( the “Silicon Valley” CD ) and this Tape is only meant to show people SICK OF SOCIETY is still alive&kickin´! There ar 7 new songs plus two tracks from the recording mentioned CD (one of them wasn´t on the album though) on this tape and they show the band in a quite recognisable style, which is pretty up speedand aggressive. Combining trashy and hardcore/punky elements. I know they didn´t like any comparisons with Sacred Reich but I jasut cannot get rid of the idea that the vocals sound a little like that band ... again (or: still). It seems that finally tha band has setttled for this type of sound, as the materialhear is clear continuation of the “Silicon Valley-Stuff”. Anyway, write to the band and check out these new songs.

SICK OF SOCIETY / RAW – This is the way I like this style: fast, short & total aggresion. The vocals remind me of Sacred Reich with the brutality of the 1st Agnostic Front release. 6 tunes that rip big time. An Excellent hardcore release.
